Fox Run Technologies . . . Web 2.0 and Open Source solutions for education

Here at Fox Run Technologies we are committed to being the first stop for educators interested in using Web 2.0 and Open Source technologies in their schools and classrooms. Through the services we offer and the free resources that we have collected, educators can improve teaching and learning in their classrooms.

Fox Run Technologies is the creation of Jeff Nelson. Jeff was the Director of Information Technologies at the Paducah Independent school district in Paducah, Kentucky for over 15 years. When Jeff started with the Paducah school system, there were less than 50 computers in use in the district. He guided the district's technology efforts to its current status of over 1200 computers, networked to high speed Internet connections in every classroom. He began his career with the district by providing two days of computer training for every teacher and administrator in the district and throughout, continued to place an emphasis on professional development as the key to successful integration of technology into instruction.

Prior to going to work for Paducah Public Schools he owned and operated the Computer Learning and Resource Center, a computer training center in Paducah, Kentucky. With clients ranging from large corporations such as Martin Marietta Energy Systems and Procter and Gamble, to school districts, such as McCracken County and Fulton County, to small businesses and individuals, the Computer Learning and Resource Center was recognized as the leading source of personal computer training in Western Kentucky.

Here at Fox Run Technologies we firmly believe that:

  • The effective use of technology in the classroom can excite and inspire both students and teachers to high levels of achievement in teaching and learning.
  • The web based technologies that are collectively called "Web 2.0" provide almost unlimited opportunities for educational collaboration among students, teachers, parents and the wider global community.
  • The Open Source software movement has provided teachers and students with access to a wealth of useful and exciting educational software at little or no cost.
  • High quality professional development is the key to the effective integration of these technologies in the classroom.
